Planning to buy a new Apple Watch series 3 and sell the old one? Wait! Before that, you will need to unpair your old Apple Watch and iPhone to connect to the new one. How will I do it? Well, there are two methods you can employ to Unpair Apple Watch 1, Series 2 or Series 3 and iPhone.
Before you unlink your Apple Watch from previous iPhone, you should consider a few things listed below:
- When you will unpair the Apple Watch from the iOS device, it will delete all the Bluetooth accessories pairing and will also erase any Apple Pay cards used on the Watch.
- When the Apple Watch is unpaired using the Watch app on your iOS device, the smartwatch is automatically backed up to the iOS device. This is also the easiest way to disable Activation lock.
Also, using the Watch app on the iOS device is the better way to disconnect the Apple Watch. - One way is to unpair using the Watch app on your paired iOS device. The Other way is to do it from the Settings app on your Apple Watch itself. Let’s find out how both work.
How To Unpair Apple Watch and iPhone using Apple Watch App
Step #1: Open the Apple Watch app on your iOS device.
Step #2: Click on ‘active watch’ at the top of My Watch screen.
Step #3: Now, tap the ‘info’ button which is located to the right of the current watch. Now, you will have to tap on the ‘Unpair Apple Watch’ option.
Step #4: Tap on ‘Unpair (the name of your watch)’ to confirm.
Step #5: You will have to enter your Apple ID password to disable Activation lock.
Now, all your Apple Watch data will be backed up on the iPhone. Once it’s done, your Watch will be unpaired from your iPhone. After this it will be restored to its factory setting.
This is a better way of backing up Apple Watch data in your iPhone.
How to Unpair Apple Watch Right from Your Wrist
If you use this method to unpair the Apple Watch from the iPhone, the Activation lock is not disabled. Also, a backup is not created if you use this method. Since the Activation lock is not disabled, you won’t be able to connect to another iPhone. So, you will have to go to iCloud.com on your computer to disable the Activation lock.
Step #1: Open the Settings App → General → Reset.
Step #2: Then tap on ‘Erase All Content and Setting’. If you have a passcode then type it and then tap on ‘Continue’ to confirm.
Step #3: Go to iCloud.com on your Computer to disable the Activation Code.
Step #4: Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Step 5: Tap ‘Settings’ and then select ‘Apple Watch’ under my devices.
Step 6: After this, click on the X near the Watch to remove it. Then tap on ‘Remove’ to confirm.
So your Apple Watch is now unpaired from the iPhone. Now as you can see using the method involving the Watch App is much easier.
