One of the things that separates Samsung from all other tech companies is the fact that Samsung loves to dabble in all aspects of technology. Obviously, Samsung rules the smartphone industry with its Galaxy S lineup, but the South Korean based tech giant also offers a bunch of high-end wearable devices such as the highly popular Gear S3 and the Gear Sport.
Gear S3 is one of the most popular smartwatches ever made and Samsung wants to continue this tradition with its successor. Samsung recently revealed a brand-new smartwatch called Galaxy Watch and it marketed it as the “next-generation” of smartwatches. Today we will take a more in-depth look at what features the upcoming Galaxy Watch has to offer and present readers the most important things they should know about before pre-ordering Samsung’s latest accessory.
Galaxy Watch
The smartwatch was unveiled at the same time Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 stepped into the spotlight and it will hit the markets on Friday, August 24th in the US. This device represents the best smartwatch that Samsung has ever designed and the expectations are set really high. With that said, let’s get into it.
#1 Different Sizes
The first thing we need to mention about Galaxy Watch is that it is available in two sizes. The first model will measure in at 42mm and the second model at 46mm. While this might not be some groundbreaking feature, we have to give praise to Samsung for designing a smartwatch that can fit on anyone’s wrist!
#2 Tizen 4.0 Operating System
Even though Samsung’s latest Galaxy Note 9 flagship smartphone is powered by Android, the South Korean based tech giant doesn’t use Google’s smartwatch operating system on Galaxy Watch and instead, the device will ship with Tizen 4.0 straight out of the box. Samsung is slowly, but surely pushing its operating system to all its devices and it won’t be long until we are going to see it everywhere.
#3 Samsung Pay
One of the coolest features that Galaxy Watch will have to offer is Samsung Pay. For those who are not familiar with this feature, it can be used to make payments directly with the smartwatch. This means that people who choose to purchase Galaxy Watch will not have to carry their credit card or cash around every time they want to buy something from the store. Although, we need to mention that this feature is only available for devices that support NFC.
#4 Improved Water Resistance
Galaxy Watch is designed for all types of activities and swimming is one of them! Samsung wanted to make sure that people who purchase a Galaxy Watch never feel the need to take it off and this is why it equipped the device with improved water resistance. Samsung claims that Galaxy Watch works without any issues in up to 50 meters of water. While the smartwatch might not be the ideal device for scuba diving, it will still do the trick.
#5 Cross-Platform Support
As previously mentioned, Galaxy Watch will run on Tizen 4.0. However, this doesn’t mean that the smartwatch will not be compatible with other operating systems. Samsung assured everyone that Galaxy Watch is a cross-platform device and that it can connect with iPhones and Android-powered devices.
On the other hand, iOS users will be at a disadvantage since they will not get access to the same features as Android users. The reason behind this is because Apple doesn’t want its iPhones to connect with other devices and it restricts the number of features that Galaxy Watch can offer. Nonetheless, Galaxy Watch will connect seamlessly with any iPhone through Bluetooth.
