Samsung launched its flagship smartphones Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The major outline of the event is “What’s exceptional today will become essential tomorrow.” Samsung is committed to three aspects of your digital life: safety, quality, and craftsmanship. The two smartphones are built around this philosophy. The new age smartphones are ‘without edges or limits’. Here we provide you full Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus features, specifications, and price.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus Features, Specifications, and Price
Display
The phones boast Infinity Display that will change everything we know about our phones. As expected, the two new phones have 5.8” (Galaxy S8) and 6.2” (Galaxy S8 Plus) screen size with rounded corners. With the curved edges on smartphones, Samsung can use big displays without requiring a giant sized phone. Samsung has manufactured individual components in smaller size so that display could be stretched to the edges of device. A noticeable difference this year is that Samsung has penchant for curved screens and hence, there is no flat options like there was last year. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are first phones to get mobile HDR certification from UHD alliance. This will ensure move vibrant colours when watching visual contents. Note that Amazon content will support HDR on the two phones. Another notable feature on display is that Samsung has moved the home button under the display. So it is a virtual button that will respond to pressure.
You can choose your phone from five different colours: Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue, and Maple Gold. Note that US consumers won’t be able to get any two colours from the list.
Camera
In camera, Samsung has used the same sensor and lens that were available in last year’s S7. On software front, Samsung has done something noticeable as it has combined multiple frames to get more detail and sharpness. Pixel and iPhone users are already enjoying these features. The selfie camera is 8MP and includes face detection autofocus. The phones have IP68 water and dust resistant qualities.
Processor
Samsung has brought smaller but more efficient processor, which is 10nm. The US consumers will get Snapdragon 835 processor, while users from other parts of the world will be using Samsung’s own Exynos chip.
Battery
Galaxy S8 has 3000mAh and Galaxy S8 Plus has 3500mAh. Both phones have weaker batteries than S7 Edge from the last year; however, they have fast wired and wireless charging facility.
Miscellaneous Features
Users will be able to unlock their phone screen with fingerprint scanner, iris, and the new face recognition system. Android has face recognition feature since Ice Cream Sandwich OS, but it was not up to the mark. Samsung uses a new engine and it is really fast. However, Samsung has made a mistake by placing fingerprint scanner right next to the camera. And this will inspire more users to use face recognition system to unlock phone.
Health will enable users to directly connect with a doctor to get diagnosis and prescriptions without having to leave your home or office. You can use video calls for this. This might sound a good feature but it has a questionable practical approach as insurance providers may reject this feature.
