Alexa is the wake word that you speak to your voice assistant. But over a period of time, you begin to feel uninterested especially when you get to know that your new neighbour’s name is Alexa.

Many feel it disappointing to call a speaker by a human name; in the beginning, everything seems exciting, but then these excitement beings to fade away. You wish you could change Alexa name to anything else.

There is another reason to change or customize Alexa wake word. Many users own multiple Alexa enabled devices in their households, and when they say the wake word, some of them get activated.

Normally, speakers with close proximity get activated upon a wake word, but there are instances when users face unwanted activations. And therefore, you need to change Alexa name.

Step #1: Open alexa.amazon.com or open Amazon Alexa app on your iOS or Android phone.

Step #2: Now click on the Hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) from the top left corner of your iPhone or Android phone.

Step #3: This will expand the side menu and you need to choose Settings from the side menu.

Step #4: Next, you need to click on one of the devices under Alexa Devices option to launch settings related to that device.

Step #5: Click Wake Word now.

Step #6: Here, you should click to open drop-down list and choose either Amazon or Echo.

Step #7: Finally, click on Save.

Now you are not supposed to use the wake word ‘Alexa’; instead, say ‘Amazon’ or ‘Echo’ to wake up the device. As per the latest firmware update, Computer is found to be a new wake word option. This was found by some Reddit users.

Since Amazon has drastically slashed prices of its Alexa enabled voice assistants, every household can now afford more than one devices like Echo and Tap; its Echo Show is still selling at an expensive price.

This means your list of Alexa devices in the Alexa app or web client, will see an upward curve.

Each Alexa device has different settings, and therefore, it is imperative for any user to tell apart the devices to avoid any confusion.

 

How to Change Amazon Device Name

Step #1: Open alexa.amazon.com on your computer or launch Amazon Alexa app on your iOS or Android device.

Step #2: Now click on hamburger icon from the top left corner in your iOS or Android phone. This will expand the side menu.

Step #3: From this side menu, choose Settings.

Step #4: Next, click on any device listed under Alexa Devices to open the settings related to that device.

Step #5: Next to Device Name, click on Edit.

Step #6: Enter a name and then click Save Changes.

When you change the wake word, you need to change the way you interact with your Amazon device; but here, when you change the device name, you don’t need to make any changes in your style of interaction with the device.

Now it is easier for users to differentiate multiple Alexa enabled devices in the Alexa app. Also, note that changing the name of Alexa device will not affect how it appears as a Bluetooth device.

The Bluetooth name will remain in its original format. However, you can always change Alexa device name in Bluetooth settings of the device paired with.
