Apple shocked the world back in 2017 when it launched iPhone X. To make things even better, Apple created an improved version of iPhone X called iPhone XS and launched it last year. iPhone XS represents the best that Apple has to offer and today we are going to show everyone the top ten tips and tricks that can help new iPhone XS users unlock the device’s full potential. Not only that, but these tips are highly useful and every iOS fan should learn them if they want to become a power user. Without any further ado, let’s get into.
iPhone XS: Tips and Tricks
#1 How to Setup Face ID
The first thing that we want to cover is how to set up Face ID. This feature was introduced back in 2017 alongside iPhone X and it is now considered to be a staple feature of the iOS operating system. Face ID is now available on iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. The first step towards enabling and setting up Face ID is to head over to Settings – Face ID & Passcode. iPhone XS users who have already set a passcode will be required it type it in.
After typing in the passcode, iPhone XS users need to tap on the “Setup Face ID” and then scan their faces until the process is complete. After the iPhone XS finishes scanning the face twice, users can start unlocking their iPhone XS just by simply looking at it.
We should note that some of you might want to set up a second Face ID account for a friend, child or significant other. This can be done by following the next steps: Settings – Face ID and Passcode – Set Up An Alternate Appearance.
#2 Use an Animoji in FaceTime
One of the coolest features that were introduced in iOS 12, the operating system that iPhone XS runs on, is Animoji. Everyone can create their own Memoji face and the awesome thing about it is that it can be used during FaceTime calls. To use an Animoji in FaceTime, the only thing that iPhone XS users need to do is to start a FaceTime call and then tap on the little star icon which can be found at the bottom of the corner. All that is left now is to tap on the Memoji face.
#3 How to Force Restart an iPhone XS
The first thing that everyone notices when they first hold an iPhone XS in the palm of their hands is that the device doesn’t feature that many buttons. While this might add a little bit of “sleekness” to the design, we have to admit that the lack of physical buttons does come with some problems. One of them is the fact that most new iPhone users don’t even know how to force restart the device. If you are one of them, then you shouldn’t worry anymore because we are here to show you how.
If the iPhone XS randomly crashes or an app gets stuck and there is no way to get rid of it, then you might want to quickly press and release the Volume Up button while quickly pressing and releasing the Volume Down Button and then pressing and holding on the Side button. This will prompt the iPhone XS to force restart or shut down.
#4 How to Take Screenshots
Since we are talking about new button combinations that iPhone XS users need to learn if they want to master their smartphones, then we also need to present what they need to do in order to snap a screenshot. Traditionally, iPhone users had to use the Home button to take screenshots, but this has changed. Now, the only thing that iPhone XS users are required to do to snap a screenshot is to tap on the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time. It’s that simple!
#5 Notifications Preview
Another big change that iOS 12 introduced to iPhones is the notification preview system. The new system makes it so that every time an iPhone user receives notifications from a text message, call or app, the contents of these notifications will be automatically hidden. The reason why Apple has developed this feature is to keep prying eyes from snooping. However, there is a way to disable this feature. This can be done by following the next steps: Access Settings – Notifications – Show Previews and pick between Always, When Unlocked, or Never.
#6 How to Enable the One-Handed Keyboard
One of the key selling features of iPhone XS is the big full-screen that the device has to offer. While the big screen might look amazing, it still comes with its fair share of issues. The big screen makes it difficult for people to browse with a single hand. Luckily, Apple has thought of this issue and it created a special feature called the one-handed keyboard. This feature can be enabled by tapping on the emoji keyboard icon in any app that uses the keyboard (including messages) and then by simply selecting the right or left handed keyboard icon and all the key icons will switch to the desired side.
#7 How to Rearrange Apps on iPhone XS
Back when the Touch ID home button was still around apps on the home page could be rearranged by simply pressing and holding on the Touch ID for a couple of seconds. Well, things have changed now that the button is gone and iPhone XS users have to use a different method. Fortunately, this one is even simpler.
All that iPhone XS users need to do is to press and hold on an app icon until it wiggles. All that is left now is to move the apps. Additionally, this is how iPhone XS users can also uninstall apps that they don’t want anymore by taping on the “x mark in the right of the corner. After all the changes have been made, all that’s left is to tap on “Done”.
